This entrepreneur is slowly creeping his way into the stereos of fans everywhere. Joe Cross came to Atlanta in 2004 with very little money, a hope, and a dream. After living in the studio, he sold 10,000 copies his first debut CD, "Keep it Confidential", out the trunk of his Daewoo. When asked about his memories of this time in his life, Joe humbly replies...
"I really came from the bottom of the music industry. I came to Atlanta and no one knew me. The music industry here was a tight-knitted network to get into and I knew no one either. I did know that I had to bombard my way thru. I remember being fresh out of college, no experience, and jobless. I would get up and hustle on the streets of Atlanta from 6 to 6 with my "Keep it Confidential" CD. Some people were kind and supportive, but most people just dissed me without even listening to my music. However, I would not be swayed from my dreams. I sold 10,000 copies at 5 to 7 dollars a piece. You do the math! In one year I had enough to start something."
Sitting in his office, Joe Cross shifts in his leather chair to get more comfortable. After finding a more suitable position, he sits back, loosens his necktie, revealing a diamond studded watch under the cuff link of his six thousand dollar suit, as he awaits the next question. I proceed.
"Joe, how did you meet the Kingpinz?"
"One of the members is my brother so I've known him my whole life. We always talked about making money and ironically, J-Money came into the scene and really put things into perspective. In three years, we went from no money to "fo-sho" money. We are all founders of "The Superlative Group LLC", which houses N-terface Records among other independent companies." Looking back, I think that hustling on the streets really prepared me for my role in the company. Because out there, you had to learn to invent a sales pitch, and I mean quick! Out there, I discovered that you aren't really selling the product, you're selling yourself and your personality. That's what makes us successful today."
"What are some things that we can look forward to from Joe Cross?"
"Well, I shot my first video in '06 for the hot single "Bottom Chick" released on buzztvmusic.com as well as on my website joecrossonline.com. I have been working diligently on my new album, "Compliments of Joe Cross" for the grown and sexy, as well as for the club hoppers. I have also been producing, alongside with the multi-talented A-Class for the upcoming Kingpinz album, "Ki's to Success". I have been ghostwriting for a number of mainstream R&B artist as well as hip-hop artists. I will be shooting my next video very soon and I will be touring heavily to promote my new album. Also I am doing some work in Taiwan with a couple of large promoters from there. Basically, it's a non-stop grind."
"What about your social life if you know what I mean? Any kids, wife, girlfriend?"
"Well, I am currently single. I want to get married one day, but not right now. I am married to my music right now. As far as children, I don't have any that I am aware of." (Smile)
"Definitely, one of the coolest brothers I have ever met. Yall look out for this independent artist/entrepreneur. The boy is doin' it! Any last words or shout outs Joe."
"Take my word for it. That "Compliments of Joe Cross" album is gonna be off the chain. Love yall. Peace!" |
